 Science Fiction Becomes Reality
Are you familiar with the old 1960s sci-fi tv series The Outer Limits? I got the 4 disc set of the first season and I have a new found appreciation for the social and political commentary the Outer Limits attempts to get across because many of the episodes seemed to warn us 40 years ago of what's going on today. The series was not taken seriously by most people because of the "cheesy" aliens seen in most episodes. There's one episode in particular called O.B.I.T which gave me the chills in it's warning about the dangers of something going on right now. O.B.I.T is a device which spies on unsuspecting people and collects information on them, all in the name of "security". The ending is unbelievable and the "control voice" (the voice over heard at the beginning and end of most episodes) then comes on and says how whether or not this becomes a reality "will depend on YOU." If you can, I recommend finding out if your local video store has the first season disk set or individual episodes available for rent. You have to at least see this one episode. You won't believe it.

Agreed, an excellent series. Another one to watch is the British '60s era "The Prisoner". In his farewell address to the nation, President Eisenhower issued a guarded warning against the rise of the military/industrial complex. Actually, it was (and is) the military/industrial/religious complex and it is in full control of the USA today. Amerika is a fascist state Folks, wake up and smell the coffee... ALlen

Yeah, I remember watching The Prisoner when it was shown on PBS back in the 80s. It has kind of a psychedelic undertone to it. I doubt the average person would comprehend the true theme of the show, unfortunately. Good suggestion. I forgot about that one.

I don't remember Prisoner but I used to love Outer Limits as a kid. Watched it every friday night when we had sleepness sleepovers and popcorn. I agree, the old series had somewhat of a New World Order theme to it now that I think about it. I'll have to get find some of the oldies and rewatch them. It's funny cause just last night I watched Outer Limits! (a new one)
