Times are changing Gar, but it's always a good thing when people question and become aware to the things around them. I remember a few years ago, I was having a discussion about the IRS with my neighbor. Her bottom line reply was and I'll quote, because I'll never forget it, "As long as I can go to my job Monday thru Friday, collect my paycheck, pay my taxes, do a few fun things on the weekend, and have no hassles with the government, that's all I'm concerned about." That really hit me. I realized then, that this is what most Americans want. They could care less if the world is crumbling around them as long as their life wasn't touched. It made me sad because I thought, even if you feel you can't do much about something, you should still be aware...and in small ways together, we can make the big changes.
Personally, I don't care if people love Michael Moore or hate him. What excited me about Fahrenheit 9/11 is the new awareness level it brought about. It stirred the waters. It reminded us of who we are. That WE the people DO have the power. That WE controll our nation. That WE can demand to know what our elected officals are doing. Knowledge is powerful and this is our country.
I was proud to celebrate today.
Happy 4th of July!
