Kosovo- US/UK/EU/NATO blunders

Russia's ambassador to Nato, Dmitry Rogozin, has warned that Russia could use military force if the Kosovo independence dispute escalates.

"If the EU develops a unified position or if Nato exceeds its mandate set by the UN, then these organisations will be in conflict with the UN," he said.

In that case Russia would "proceed on the basis that in order to be respected we need to use brute force", he said.

The Russians have no other choice but to do this or slink home like whipped dogs with their tail between their legs. The Serbs WON'T this time around (no matter what it costs them) and the Russians won't either- I will bet money on it. The Russian people are at the boiling point over the West (no matter what their "government" thinks, says, or does) and it's spitting in their face, otherwise such a statement as this would never have come from an official source.

This is off another board and my response. The US had made an absolutely monumental disaster of a policy move- FAR worse than attacking Iraq. It is compeletly insane. Now you have the Serb and Russian Orthodox Churches involved with the belief of their people's at stake here. Kosovo is "holy ground" to Serbs and Russia supports them.
What is the US going to do if the Russians decide to fight? The Russians have the largest nuclear arsenal on the planet and the delivery sytems to put the warheads on US, UK and EU targets. Their Army is not over extended as ours is and is raring to go. What will the US do if the Russians start dropping crack paratroop units and moving motorized rifle divisions into Kosovo to stop this? What exactly will they (or more correctly) CAN they do? The answer is: not much...
