The basis of war has nothing to do with religion, greed, monetary gain, etc.,etc.,etc. The basis of war is very simple- survival- ALL the above attendant trappings-to include honor and glory-are nothing but excuses and the tools of stage "majic" used to make it all happen.
If you were a parasite and needed conflict because that gave you the very best food and made you grow fat and sleek at the expense of your host- then what would you do? Why foment all the misery, strife and suffering you possibly could every chance you got. Now you know why there is such evil in the world today.
