Hi -

I'm afraid that a setting on my forum has changed. I remember when I created the forum, I made choices about keeping it private -- it's only intended for our family. Recently I noticed that someone new had signed up for our forum with an address I don't recognize. I emailed them, but got no response. I was curious about how they got to our forum since I thought it was private, so I experimented with typing the name of of our forum into Dogpile and Google. It came up on both of them!

I really want to keep our forum private. I have family members posting there who would be very uncomfortable knowing that anyone can get in there and read what they're posting. Is there a way to make it private again?

Hi Karen!

I changed the settings on your forum to make it visible for registered users only (it was set to be visible for everyone before).

To improve that you should create a usergroup, add everyone you know and than make everything visible for this usergroup only.

Thank you, BoardBoss! I'm still confused about how/why it got set to the "visible" setting. I'm sure I chose the most private settings available when I was setting up the board.

Also, I just checked, and our board is still listed on Dogpile. If someone who is not listed as a member clicks on this link, will they still be able to get to the board?

Hi Karen!

We changed our permission system completly some month ago. Nothing should have been lost during this process and I didnt have anyone report changes in the permissions until now. But who knows, it might have changed when we did that update.

There is nothing we can do aboout other sites linking to your forum. When the permissions are set to be readable only for your usergroup, no one else will be able to read your posts.
